Smart 2 Tachograph Simulator Training

Eliminate costly infringements with online simulator training

Avoid DVSA / DVA penalties (and even bigger penalties over the water) :
get up to speed and up to date with SMART 2 tachographs

With the mandatory fitment of second generation SMART 2 tachographs in all brand new "in scope" commercial vehicles registered since 21st August 2023, mandatory retrofitting in older vehicles carrying out international work since 18th August 2025, and from 1st July 2026 the fitting of these latest SMART 2 tachos in goods vehicles with a MAM exceeding 2.5t, due to their use being mandatory when on any part of an international journey (including the Republic of Ireland), it is essential that drivers and transport managers are fully proficient with the use of these machines in order to prevent costly, for both driver and operator, roadside prohibitions which often lead to even costlier audits.

Our bespoke online training utilizes exact replicas of the latest SMART 2 VDO DTCO 4.1b and Stoneridge SE5000 v8.1 tachographs.

What We Offer (you tell us what you want and we tailor the training to your needs) :

  • Exact Unit Replicas : Choice of VDO DTCO 4.1a/b or Stoneridge SE5000 v8.1, or both if you have a mixed fleet
  • Features & Functions : We introduce and explain DSRC (roadside remote tacho interogation by the authorities), ITS, remote downloading of data, GNSS (the hook up to the Galileo satellites) for location recording
  • Driver Card Updates : Generation 2 version 1 (G2v1) and Generation 2 version 2 (G2v2) Driver Cards - we explain the difference
  • Manual Entries : The correct way to make those legally required manual entries, not just to fill in the gap between shifts, but also when having a night out or returning from holiday / sickness
  • Remote Manual Entries : Pairing a mobile phone with a SMART 2 tacho via Bluetooth, then making manual entries using an app and sending those manual entries to the tacho to be written onto the Driver Card
  • Driver Card Printouts : The difference between a legal printout and a non-legal printout and how to make them
  • Vehicle Unit Printouts : How to make them and how to ensure legal compliance when driving without a card
  • Defective Tacho : We cover in detail the procedure a driver must follow
  • Loading / Unloading : Ensure that these mandatory entries are recorded when on an international journey
  • Ferry Mode : We demonstrate the correct procedure for using "ferry mode", to prevent fault code 96, a GNSS irregularity
  • Article 12 : Ensure that your driver's know exactly how to invoke article 12 of EC561/2006
  • Out of Scope : Ensure that your driver's know exactly how record their activities when "out of scope" of EC561/2006
  • Occasional Driver : We demonstrate how the DVSA expect an occasional driver (TM for example) to keep their records
